It's Ham not Spam!

Our nation and our World have been hammered with Spam. And now we are
on a crusade to crush the Spam and the Spammers. But before we do that
let's examine the crusade first.

There is a difference between Ham and Spam. Spam is unsolicited and
fraudulent e-mail or group posting sent to a large number of addresses
that often promises great results (i.e. weight loss, penis
enlargement, etc.) for a great price.

Ham is low budget internet advertising via e-mail, articles and group
postings. Generally Ham provides brief information about the company
or provides information about the product or service. Ham is
generally targeted to postings, message boards or articles that
related to the industry being advertised.

The big Internet companies like priceline.com can afford television
ads with talent like William Shatner. Smaller Start-up Internet
companies cannot afford the big budget advertising and are often stuck
with the low budget and usually free source of submitting postings,
articles and emails to large number of people to advertise their
business.

People who Ham are now being considered spammers, because of the
Anti-Spam Crusade.

To illustrate my point with a true story. A few years ago a high
school principal was following the crusade to stop under aged drinking
and created a "No Tolerance Alcohol Policy" at the high school. The
parents and teachers liked this policy. Any child caught drinking or
having possession of alcohol on or off campus would be expelled from
school for a full year.

Great idea!? Maybe.

Anyway there was a well behaved child that had never drank alcohol and
never planned to. This child was also great at maintaining personal
hygiene and he kept a toothbrush, toothpaste and mouthwash in his
locker at the high school in order to brush his teeth and rinse his
mouth after lunch.

Yes, you have probably guessed what happened by now. The mouthwash had
alcohol content. The young male was expelled for a year from school
for having possession of alcohol on the school campus. Innocent of any
real crime this child was a victim of overzealous crusading.

Are those who Ham in danger of victimization by the Anti-Spam
Crusade??? Yes, without a doubt. We humans do it, time and time
again, when we start a crusade to stop something that is in fact evil,
we go overboard and start victimizing innocent souls.

But you can help prevent victimization by learning more about Spam and
that not all e-mail and posting are Spam. Ham has helped start-up
ventures become successful since the beginning of the Internet. Ham is
not Spam; it is a process of getting the word out about a new business
via the Internet.
